DIY-Butterbeer Lip Balm. It is so yummy!!!
October Friday the 13 I hosted a Harry Potter themed spa girls night and it was fantastic!! I don’t really care for scary movies so this was an awesome alternative. 🙂 I pulled some recipes from The Unofficial Harry Potter Beauty Potions Book from Amazon and I found a recipe on Youtube by Demi Siriusly for DIY Butterbeer lip balm!!
DIY-Butterbeer Lip Balm
Butterbeer recipe starts at 4:29
- 1 tsp beeswax, cocoa butter, almond oil, butterscotch chips, and vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp vitamin E oil
First combine all the ingredients, except the vanilla extract, in a microwave-safe container in the microwave for 30-second increments. It usually took me about 1:30 for everything to melt. Second, add the vanilla extract. When I did this it started solidifying but if you stir it real fast then everything turns back to liquid. Third, pour it into your lip balm container and let it set. It took about an hour and a half to set at room temperature.
Here are some tips from my experience. First tip- DON’T use old butterscotch chips. The first time I tried this recipe I tried using chips that were a couple months old. And that definitely didn’t work! Number one is smelled nasty! Number two it was all lumpy. The second tip- use your finger to warm up the lip balm for a smoother, easier application. Just run your finger over the top of the balm in a circle a couple times.
This recipe was super easy to follow! And it smells SOOO good!! However, the balm ended up with some small lumps in it. I don’t know if this is because I did something wrong or if it is supposed to have them. It kind of seems like crystallized sugar. It doesn’t bother me because they are super small and it’s almost like gently exfoliating your lips. 🙂
